Enhancing College Student Leadership Practices Through Organization Development Interventions: A Case Study of Zhejiang Yuexiu University of Foreign Languages (Zyufl), China
This research mainly investigated the impact of ODI on the leadership practice of college students, to determine the significant difference in university student leadership before and after ODI. The researcher firstly surveyed on 339 students in ZYUFL Jinghu Campus to study the current university students' leadership practice, it was found that the level of leadership of college students was not high. Meanwhile, significant differences of the students' leadership practices according to their experiences of knowledge learning, practical training, and team building were determined. Based on these findings, the researcher had designed relevant leadership activities, and conducted a four-month intervention for improving the selected college studentsâ leadership practices. Then, the researcher further tested and compared the studentsâ leadership practices in the control group and the experimental group, before and after the intervention. In this process, a paired samples t-test was applied and significant differences with the students in the experimental group before and after the intervention were determined, which proved that the intervention was effective, and the college studentsâ leadership practice could be effective through intervention. Discussion on the findings and recommendations were also provided in this study
A Comparison of Tropical Rainforest Phenology Retrieved From Geostationary (SEVIRI) and Polar-Orbiting (MODIS) Sensors Across the Congo Basin
The seasonal and interannual dynamics of tropical rainforests play a critical role in the global carbon cycle and climate change. This paper retrieved and compared land surface phenology from observations acquired by the Spinning Enhanced Visible and Infrared Imager (SEVIRI) onboard geostationary satellites and the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on polar-orbiting satellites over the Congo Basin. To achieve this,we first retrieved canopy greenness cycles (CGCs) and their transition timing from two-band enhanced vegetation index (EVI2) derived from SEVIRI and MODIS data between 2006 and 2013.We then assessed the influences of SEVIRI and MODIS data quality on the reconstruction of the EVI2 temporal trajectory, the detection of the CGC onset and end timing, and the total number of successful CGC retrievals. The significance of influences was determined using the one-tailed two-sample KolmogorovâSmirnov test. The results indicate that diurnal SEVIRI observations greatly increased the probability of capturing cloud-free daily EVI2 in the rainforest-dominated region of the Congo Basin, where the proportion of good quality (PGQ) observations during a CGC was up to 80% higher than that from MODIS. As a result, the double annual CGCs of the Congo Basin rainforests were well identified from SEVIRI but sparsely detected from MODIS, whereas the single annual CGC in the savanna-dominated northern and southern Congo Basin was successfully retrieved from both SEVIRI and MODIS. Moreover, the decreases of PGQ in an EVI2 time series were found to significantly increase the uncertainties of retrieved phenological timings and increase the probabilities of CGC retrieval failures
On Internal Resonance Analysis of a Double-Cable-Stayed Shallow-Arch Model with Elastic Supports at Both Ends
In previous research on the nonlinear dynamics of cable-stayed bridges, boundary conditions were not properly modeled in the modeling. In order to obtain the nonlinear dynamics of cable-stayed bridges more accurately, a double-cable-stayed shallow-arch model with elastic supports at both ends and the initial configuration of bridge deck included in the modeling is developed in this study. The in-plane eigenvalue problems of the model are solved by dividing the shallow arch (SA) into three partitions according to the number of cables and the piecewise functions are taken as trial functions of the SA. Then, the in-plane one-to-one-to-one internal resonance among the global mode and the local modes (two cables\u27 modes) is investigated when external primary resonance occurs. The ordinary differential equations (ODEs) are obtained by Galerkin\u27s method and solved by the method of multiple time scales. The stable equilibrium solutions of modulation equations are obtained by using the Newton-Raphson method. In addition, the frequency-/force-response curves under different vertical stiffness are provided to study the nonlinear dynamic behaviors of the elastically supported model. To validate the theoretical analyses, the Runge-Kutta method is applied to obtain the numerical solutions. Finally, some interesting conclusions are drawn
Particle Deposition in Microfluidic Devices at Elevated Temperatures
In microchannels, interaction and transport of micro-/nanoparticles and biomolecules are crucial phenomena for many microfluidic applications, such as nanomedicine, portable food processing devices, microchannel heat exchangers, etc. The phenomenon that particles suspended in liquid are captured by a solid surface (e.g., microchannel wall) is referred to as particle deposition. Particle deposition is of importance in numerous practical applications and is also of fundamental interest to the field of colloid science. This chapter presents researches on fouling and particle deposition in microchannels, especially the effects of temperature and temperature gradient, which have been frequently âignoredâ but are important factors for thermal-driven particle deposition and fouling processes at elevated temperatures
Resonance Analysis between Deck and Cables in Cable-Stayed Bridges with Coupling Effect of Adjacent Cables Considered
The nonlinear dynamic model of a shallow arch with multiple cables is developed to model a long-span cable-stayed bridge. Based on the veering phenomenon of cable-stayed bridges, the in-plane modal internal resonance between the first mode of the shallow arch and the first mode of the cable is investigated under both primary resonance and subharmonic resonance. Modulation equations of the dynamic system are obtained by Galerkin discretization and the multiple scales method, in which the equilibrium solution of modulation equations is obtained by the NewtonâRaphson method. Meanwhile, the RungeâKutta method is applied to directly solve the ordinary differential equations to verify the accuracy of the perturbation analysis. Numerical analysis shows that the internal resonance occurs in adjacent cables; the energy transfer mechanism and the dynamic behavior of system become more complex
Division Gets Better: Learning Brightness-Aware and Detail-Sensitive Representations for Low-Light Image Enhancement
Low-light image enhancement strives to improve the contrast, adjust the
visibility, and restore the distortion in color and texture. Existing methods
usually pay more attention to improving the visibility and contrast via
increasing the lightness of low-light images, while disregarding the
significance of color and texture restoration for high-quality images. Against
above issue, we propose a novel luminance and chrominance dual branch network,
termed LCDBNet, for low-light image enhancement, which divides low-light image
enhancement into two sub-tasks, e.g., luminance adjustment and chrominance
restoration. Specifically, LCDBNet is composed of two branches, namely
luminance adjustment network (LAN) and chrominance restoration network (CRN).
LAN takes responsibility for learning brightness-aware features leveraging
long-range dependency and local attention correlation. While CRN concentrates
on learning detail-sensitive features via multi-level wavelet decomposition.
Finally, a fusion network is designed to blend their learned features to
produce visually impressive images. Extensive experiments conducted on seven
benchmark datasets validate the effectiveness of our proposed LCDBNet, and the
results manifest that LCDBNet achieves superior performance in terms of
multiple reference/non-reference quality evaluators compared to other
state-of-the-art competitors. Our code and pretrained model will be available.Comment: 14 pages, 16 figure
